Dr. David Smith

David Smith was born on October 19, 1942, in Shelbyville, Indiana. David graduated from Purdue University in 1966 with a B.S. degree, and with a M.S. degree in 1969. Dave was an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering Technology Department at Purdue for 11 years. He was born again on March 7, 1971, and served as a bus captain at the Indianapolis Baptist Temple in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1972 – 1976. For part of that time, his bus route averaged over 200 riders per Sunday with a high day of 306.

David surrendered to the call to preach in 1976 and entered Hyles Anderson Bible College, graduating in 1977 with a Pastor’s Refresher Diploma. Upon graduation, he served as an assistant pastor in the area of visitation and bus ministry at Calvary Chapel Independent Baptist Church in Minister, Ohio, and then at Landmark Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida. Next, David accepted the call to serve as the pastor of a mission church in Ohio, which grew from an average of 75 to over 400 with a high day of 701. After five years as pastor, he went to work under Dr. Ron Schaffer at Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, Ohio, as bus director where the ministry grew from an average of 150 to 550 riders per Sunday.

In the fall of 1989, Dave was called to Trinity Baptist Church to serve as bus director. There the bus ministry grew to average over 2800 riders per week on 48 bus routes, with big days of over 4000 on the buses. Bro. Smith has authored five books in the area of the bus ministry, and teaches Bible and Christian education courses at Trinity Baptist College. He and his wife, Carol, have three grown daughters, Christy, Laura and Andrea. Presently, Bro. Smith is involved with the adult ministries of the church. In the year 2000 Bro Smith was awarded an honorary D.D. from Trinity Baptist College to honor his accomplishments in the ministry.
