Pastor Gil Fernandez and his wife, Leah, grew up going to church and Sunday school. They both accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour at a very young age. In the Providence of God, they met in a church where Gil was serving as the Youth Pastor and were married in 1984. God has blessed them with two wonderful children, Louie Justin and Shelly Gaile.
After finishing high school, Brother Fernandez sensed God calling him into the ministry. He attended the Doane Baptist Seminary in Iloilo City where he graduated and received a Bachelor of Theology degree in 1977. Pastor Gil later attended the Asia Theological Seminary in Bacolod where, in 1996 he graduated Cum Lau
de and was awarded the Master of Divinity degree with honors.

Brother Gil's wife, Leah, is a 1980 graduate of the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. She completed her post graduate studies at the same university and the Master of Science degree was conferred upon her in 2004. In April 2009, she earned a PhD in Business. She currently is a college science professor and uses lessons from the classroom to introduce her students to Jesus Christ.
Brother Gil has wide experience in the ministry. He has served the Lord as a Youth Pastor; Pastor; Evangelist and Director of a mission agency. He was also a faculty member and leader of a seminary.
Presently, Gil serves as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Bible Baptist Fellowship Church in Bacolod City. This church was started by Pastor Gil in 1998. They now own property upon which a beautiful church building has been constructed, and in which the congregation of over 200 members worship.
Pastor Fernandez is actively involved in planting new churches using the Calvary Bible Baptist Fellowship Church as the authority and "Mother" church for these efforts. Sister Leah is a tireless servant and actively involves herself in the ministry in support of her husband.
Brother Fernandez is an accomplished communicator of the Word of God. As a soul-winner, he has been used by the Lord to introduce thousands of people to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition to his pastoral and church planting ministries, he also teaches part-time in two Bible colleges that train young people for the ministry.
Brother Fernandez brings over thirty years of quality ministry experience to the Village Light Project team. He serves as VLP Genral Director-Philippines, and VLP Director of National Church Planting. Brother Fernandez provides direction and cultural relevancy for our ministry of training nationals and planting Baptist churches in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
